spring break?

For the first time in 8 years, I had spring break. In high school, this was the time when all my friends went to the beach while I was stuck working full time at Bruno’s. This spring break was different. My friends at school all went to the beach, but instead of ruthless managers and paper bags, I enjoyed a week free of classes with my wife.

We spent a few days at my parents’ house, but the bulk of the week was spent with Katie’s parents in Lexington. Although it snowed the first day we were there, we found ways to enjoy the break. Pasha required his semi-daily walks, Katie’s mom needed to shop, and I spent time doing homework. We also played bridge and watched basketball. Our moms excelled in giving us royal treatment, making it a true vacation.

By the end of the week, the weather was warm enough for a few games of badminton, but not quite enough to get tans like everyone in my classes. I may be white, but I can hold my own in bridge and badminton. But alas, these talents won't prove useful for 40 or 50 more years.
